Vimla ji was born in Srinagar.She was trained as a psychologist in India and in U.S. She taught psychology in Bombay and also had private practice as a psychotherapist. She and her
husband, Dr. Bhagwan Krishan Gaur migrated to U.S. in 1986.
Vimla ji had a special knack
for languages. She could
speak Kashmiri, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, English and
Spanish. She was deeply
interested in Indian culture, music and art. She had formal training as a Sitar player and learned to play Tabla
during the last two years of her life. She wrote poetry in Hindi and was fond of reading her poems
whenever the occasion presented itself. She had a great flare for dramatics.
She loved to tell stories and crack jokes.
Those of us who were close to her, still miss her gentle manner, sweet voice and self-deprecating humor.
